FOUR RAINDROPS... / 'YUGWAXSTA'YALA

Four individual raindrops falling on the high peaks of the Rockies could easily end up thousands of miles apart -- one flowing north to the Beaufort Sea, another reaching the Gulf of Mexico, a third would be absorbed into Hudson Bay to the east and the last into the vast Pacific.

Some 270 million plus years ago, had one wanted to buy waterfront property in what is now British Columbia, you’d be looking somewhere between Prince George and the Alberta border.

MAMMA MOOSE, BABY MOOSE... GRIZZLY!

We freeze cameras in hand. In seconds the three are upon us. Mamma moose runs straight for us and reaching our boats turns 90 degrees and bolts for the woods -- her calf fast on her heels. The Grizzly, running and caught up in the thrill of the kill, doesn’t notice the deke, hits the brakes and stands up on her hind legs in front of us, ready for some lunch.

URSAVUS / TEK-WAY-DEE

The Bowron Lakes are at an elevation of 3000 ft. making both Grizzly and Black Bear sightings are common. Both bear families descend from a common ancestor, Ursavus, a bear-dog the size of a raccoon who lived more than 20 million years ago. Seems an implausible lineage having just met of the their larger descendents.

MYOMANCY | ROLL THE MICE

Myomancy was a method of divination by mice. Their behaviour was observed and taken as a omen of what was to come. Modern scientists study the movements of mice more than the ancient myomancers did and for ends that are not dissimilar.
